Meet Our People: Tony Selwyn Head of Environmental Planning

Tony is vastly experienced with more than 13 years working in the environmental planning sector, delivering sustainable development across the property and infrastructure sectors.
So, what exactly do you do then?

I head up Plowman Craven’s environmental planning team, working with stakeholders across the business and a wide variety of clients. My day to day is largely made up of advising clients on sustainable development to help them mitigate their environmental impact and achieve planning consent for a range of project types across a number of sectors.

What does a typical day look like?

It's pretty varied with a mixture of project delivery, client meetings and business development. I also try to keep my hand in with some of the site work too, when time (and weather) permits! In terms of subject matter, I deal with a range of environmental impacts and topics, covering anything from bat surveys and archaeological digs to monitoring construction noise and air quality testing.

What do you like most about your job?

I take great satisfaction from helping our clients to achieve their development goals in a sustainable manner with real regard to the environment and conservation. Sustainable development is one of the most important challenges of our lifetime and it's great to be in a position to influence things.

Favourite project?

HS2 London to Birmingham route appraisal stages - sifting through numerous options and assessing the environmental impacts with a view to selecting the most sustainable route. It was one of the biggest projects in the UK at the time and it still is.

What’s your proudest achievement?

I can’t choose one in particular but witnessing the construction and completion of a number of developments that I have worked on has been satisfying. Passing some of them on my commute through the Vauxhall area of London is also a regular reminder which makes me proud.
