It’s been another busy year for Plowman Craven… here’s just a few highlights from an eventful 2017.
Smithfield Poultry Market
We spent three weeks scanning both the interior and exterior of the building, delivering a 3D BIM model as well as a comprehensive condition survey. Our UAV team proved invaluable in providing high-accuracy imagery and survey data of the iconic domed roof.
Chelsea FC Stadium
February saw us engaged in the measurement of Chelsea FC’s existing and proposed stadia, providing area measurement reports to assist in the (successful) planning process. We also continued to conduct IPMS presentations, making clients aware of the new code of International Property Measurement Standards for residential.
Construction News Specialists Awards – Highly Commended
Our innovative work on Crossrail – which involved surveying all 42km and creating a solution that enables the automated drilling machines to operate inside the new tunnels – was recognised at the prestigious Construction News Specialists Awards. We were delighted to be Highly Commended in the Innovation of the Year category.
Priority Schools Building Programme
A £4.4bn undertaking to rebuild the nation’s schools, our ongoing work for Mace on Priority Schools Building Project really shows our multi-disciplinary capabilities. So far, we’ve delivered no less than 17 different survey types at more than 50 schools.
Over the summer we increased our activity in this area, providing a full range of services covering everything from Technical Due Diligence to Environmental Impact Assessments. Working across a number of prestigious projects – including the lease regularisation of 3,500 NHS-owned properties - our independence and expertise has helped asset managers and owners to optimise their portfolios.
Vogel R3D launch
In June we launched Vogel R3D - the world’s first drone-based rail survey system capable of sub-5mm accuracy. Network Rail hailed it as a game-changer and we’re now deploying Vogel on live jobs in the rail and wider infrastructure environment.
3D UGS plus investment in GPR
In July it was all about our Underground Utilities Services, with significant investment in the latest GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) equipment and the development of capability to deliver UGS within the BIM environment for a complete above and below ground picture.
RICS video with Ali-A
Over the summer we worked with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the YouTube star Ali-A, helping to inspire the next generation of surveyors by demonstrating the latest interactive 3D-modelling technologies and flying our high-accuracy drones.
In September, the annual Parliamentary Review of the Construction and Engineering sectors was launched – we were delighted to be featured in this prestigious publication that showcases the innovation and best practice across a range of industries. A gala dinner at Westminster wasn’t a bad way to celebrate!
As well as monitoring buildings and structures for any signs of movement, our dedicated PC Monitoring division continues to monitor a number of London Underground and Network Rail assets that run alongside and underneath some of London’s large-scale urban regeneration projects. These include the likes of Kings Cross, Old Oak Common and Brent Cross.
Gold again for Plowman Craven at the Herts 10k
In October we also sponsored the Herts 10k, which raises invaluable funds for Rennie Grove Hospice
Led by our experienced Head of Environmental Planning, Tony Selwyn, our environmental surveying and monitoring division is now delivering an enhanced range of services. Working across a wide range of projects, PC Enviro’s expanded offering covers everything from noise, vibration and air quality to pre-acquisition assessments and Section 61 consents.
