IT Engineer

Ref: VA142 Head Office - Harpenden Full time Temporary

IT Engineer (3-month contract negotiable)

PRIMARY PURPOSE

You would be a great fit for this role if you are looking for a contractual role, can start immediately and have great experience in working in a helpdesk environment using Microsoft Office packages. Your primary purpose is to continue driving our IT support services to a team of over 200 employees including many of them remote working or in the field. This is achieved through technical expertise, proactive support, and strategic implementation of IT solutions that align with our business objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Support and Infrastructure Management

  • Minimise operational downtime through advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving of complex IT issues.
  • Manage and optimise Windows Server environments (2016, 2019, 2022), Windows 10/11, and Office 365 suite.
  • Administer and maintain Active Directory with Group Policy, ensuring robust security and efficient user management.
  • Oversee networking infrastructure, Hyper-V, and VMware environments to ensure high availability and performance.

Cloud and Security Operations

  • Leverage in-depth knowledge of cloud technologies, particularly Amazon Web Services and Azure, to optimise IT operations.
  • Implement and manage security systems and protocols to protect organisational assets and data.
  • Utilise endpoint management tools like Microsoft Intune and/or SCCM for efficient device management and security.

Service Delivery and Process Improvement

  • Lead the IT helpdesk system, ensuring efficient ticket management and timely resolution of issues.
  • Conduct root-cause and trend analysis to identify areas for improvement in IT service delivery.
  • Develop and implement IT service delivery frameworks to enhance efficiency and align with business goals.

Project Management and Innovation

  • Spearhead IT projects, ensuring delivery within agreed scope and timelines.
  • Identify and implement technological improvements to maximise operational productivity and support business growth.
  • Collaborate with the Head of IT in digital transformation initiatives, providing technical insights and recommendations.

Team Leadership and Collaboration

  • Provide technical guidance and support to IT team members, fostering skill development and knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, demonstrating excellent communication skills.
  • Lead change management initiatives, ensuring smooth adoption of new technologies and processes.

Specific Areas of Technical Expertise

  • Office 365 ecosystem, including MS Teams, SharePoint, and PowerBI.
  • Cloud-hosted business systems and data management platforms.
  • Autodesk and Leica software for survey operations.
  • Implementation of collaboration and remote working solutions.

YOUR PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

Essential Technical Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a Microsoft-centric IT environment.
  • Proven expertise in Windows Server, Windows 10/11, and Office 365 administration.
  • Strong proficiency in Active Directory, Group Policy, and networking technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, particularly AWS and Azure.
  • Demonstrated ability in managing virtualisation technologies (Hyper-V, VMware).
  • Proficiency in endpoint management using Microsoft Intune and/or SCCM.
  • Experience in running a busy helpdesk and providing advanced technical support.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think laterally.
  • Proven track record in change management and technology adoption initiatives.
  • Excellent communication skills for engaging with diverse stakeholders.
