Apprentice Assistant Accountant

Ref: REC140 Based in Harpenden Permanent Role

Primary Purpose

Responsible for inputting financial data onto sales and purchase ledgers, in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • To receive and process all sales invoices and credit notes.
  • To receive, check, process and code all supplier invoices and credit card expenditure.
  • To receive and process all requests for payment, including entering on banking system, in accordance with delegation of authority.
  • To liaise with suppliers on outstanding purchase invoices.
  • Assist with credit control, as required.
  • Assist in month end and management accounts tasks, as required and in accordance with the month end schedule.
  • Create and maintain financial and statistical spread-sheets and reports, using appropriate software.
  • Ensure all filing is done in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ensure Time sheets are completed by all staff members on a weekly basis.
  • Ensure staff expenses are processed in a timely manner.
  • Provide training to staff on how to use the company systems i.e. the expense and time sheet modules.

  • Self-motivated, positive “can do” attitude, with a clear focus on high quality results
  • A natural forward planner who critically assesses own performance
  • Well-presented and business like
  • Team player, with ability to liaise with others
  • Willingness to develop and improve
  • Calm and professional

Key skills

  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Ability to work without close supervision
  • Some background in Finance would be favourable but not essential
