Revolution Manchester Velodrome 12/12/2006

Revolution 15 at the Manchester velodrome was it's usual vibrant self and this time it was the turn of the Madison riders to take centre stage.

Former World Hour Record holder Graeme Obree made an appearance and was his usual entertaining self.

On the night James Taylor and Tony Gibb did the team proud by winning the 1km Madison, James told Cycling Weekly in a recent interview that this was one of his favourite races.

James and Tony looked resplendent in the all white of national Madison champions. James and Tony timed their changes to perfection with James leading off and throwing Tony in to cross the line in a fantastic time of 59.002 secs. Adam Blythe and World junior scratch champion Peter Kennaugh were tipped as potential winnners, but this time they had to settle for second place.

One of the most entertaining pairs were Obree and Franco Marvulli. The former triple World champion Marvulli told me before the event that Obree was one of his heroes and was honored to be riding with him. Obree mistimed his ride slightly making Franco do a full 3 laps on his own before changing!

1. Tony Gibb & James Taylor 59.002
2. Adam Blythe & Peter Kennaugh 59.437
3. Jonny Bellis & Matt Brammeier 59.940
4. Marco Villa & Iljo Keisse 1.00.742
5. Danny Stam & Peter Schep 1.02.445
6. Franco Marvulli Graeme Obree 1.04.544

Malcolm Elliott

After the event we received an email from Guy Elliott the CEO of DHL who also sponsor REVOLUTION as Plowman Craven do. Guy was entertaining a potential sponsor and 24-7 Recruitment were the sponsors on the night of the Madison time trial won by James and Tony.  Our boys are an example of
professionalism.

Guy said:

Last night I was entertaining an important potential new sponsor at the Revolution. He has already invested a considerable amount of money in the Junior International Road Race that I run and has now dabbled with track racing with a commitment and desire to do more, having been at the November Revolution where he was "blown away" by the whole evening. Last night he was present with his three young children and Fran Millar had arranged for him to sponsor one of the races which was won by Tony Gibb and James Taylor of your racing team.

Immediately after the race Tony and James went out of their way to look after the children and took them to their riders' area and gave them several photos and stickers which not only went down incredibly well but was very professional. They then had their photos taken with the sponsor and his kids when they would have been happier doing something else I am sure. This was followed up by Malcolm Elliott signing postcards etc for them. Nothing was too much trouble for them.

I think all three riders were a great credit to your team and my "sponsor" left the evening committed to investing more into track racing with us and saying what an incredibly friendly bunch of people elite cyclists are.

Would you please ensure that my thanks not only go to Tony, James and Malcolm  but that they are made aware of how important "that friendly chat" was - they are not only great professionals on the track but, equally importantly, off the bike as well.

Thank you and kind regards

Guy Elliott
Solihull Cycling Club (and, from a business perspective,  DHL)

Thanks to Guy for taking the time to express his thanks.
