3D Laser Scanning of Crime Scenes
The first geomatics organisation in Europe to acquire a 3D Laser Scanner, Plowman Craven have been supporting Police investigations and inquiries with this service for over a decade.
3D Laser Scanners have the capability to capture at speed vast amounts of data at crime scenes, incidents and disaster scenes. From large-scale urban or rural locations down to intimate rooms and furnishings, vehicles and weapons, Plowman Craven's team of forensically-trained experts are able to mobilise at short notice to any location to capture 3D information.
The benefits of recording scenes by this method include:
- Laser scanner operates remotely, i.e., without hindrance to investigating teams or contamination of forensic evidence.
- Latest laser technology captures data rapidly allowing scene to be 'handed-back' and normal service to resume at scene.
- Laser Scanner records entire scene, hence no return visit to site is required.
- As captured data is three-dimensional can be used to analyse sight-lines, bullet trajectories and more.
- Laser scan data can be easily transformed into a variety of formats from precise layout drawings through to complex computer-generated 3D models and animations.
- Scenes of crime can be accurately reconstructed from laser scan data.
Plowman Craven's high-technology equipment is constantly upgraded and the team is available on a 24/7 callout basis.
