Plowman Craven to support Chas Messanger Two-Day
Britain's only Premier Calendar race in the South of England, the Chas Messenger Two-Day, is to be sponsored by Plowman Craven, the Hertfordshire based measurement company behind one of the UK's top pro teams.
The three-stage, two-day race will be held on two adjacent circuits near Winslow, Buckinghamshire on the weekend of May 3 and 4 . An 8 km time trial on Saturday morning will be followed by a 120 km stage in the afternoon, with a final 150 km stage the next day.
The race is also backed by Arctic Air Conditioning, Kingfisher Beer, Phil Corley Cycles of Milton Keynes, Premier Bikes and Sport & Publicity.
Plowman Craven MD Simon Barnes is keen to help support the unsung heroes of cycle sport, the race organisers.
"It is increasingly difficult for organisers to find circuits with Police permission, particularly in the South of England. Already this year we have lost both the Archer and Tour of Wessex, and Ian Chatfield and Mick Clark have worked tirelessly to put on this race. As the majority of Premier Calendar races now seem to be in the North of England, having a race south of Watford Gap is important for the growth of the sport.
"It will also save me considerable travel costs," he added with a smile.
Arctic Air Conditioning and Premier Bikes will be sponsoring the climber's jersey. Peter Ruffhead, Arctic CEO commented:
"This is now the leading premier race in the South East for 2008 and all the sponsors want it to be a classic race".
Ian Chatfield and Mick Clark of British Cycling Central Region who are organising the event acknowledged the support of all the sponsors:
"We are grateful to Simon Barnes of Plowman Craven and Tony Gibb of the Plowman Craven Race Team for their commitment to cycling and for sponsoring what is now Central Region's leading event, as well as all our other sponsors. The challenges of organising an event like this are immense and we feel everybody in the sport - clubs, teams and British Cycling - need to pull together to get races like this off the ground. We recognise the support of cycling clubs throughout the Region and thank them for their support."
