BBC Children in Need

BBC Children in Need LogoThe theme of this years BBC Children in Need Appeal is Do Something Different, which is exactly what BBC Breakfast presenters Chris Hollins and Carol Kirkwood intend to do by cycling from Glasgow to Edinburgh on a tandem later this week (Thursday 15 November).

While sports presenter Chris has experience of cycling the London triathlon, and weather reporter Carol regularly rides her bike to the shops, both thought it would be a good idea to get some tips from Plowman Craven Evans Cycles' pro rider Tony Gibb before they set off. The three met up in London's Battersea Park for a training session, which was broadcast on BBC Breakfast. Chris and Carol quickly adapted to two-up riding once Tony had helped them resolve such technical issues as who was in charge and why the person at the back can't stop cycling! You can watch how the training session went by clicking the link below.

"Friday is a big night for Children in Need and all the stars will be on the show raising money" commented Chris, "but where do the millions go?"

"Carol and I thought it would be great idea to visit organisations in Scotland where money from Children in Need has made a difference, and came up with the idea of travelling from Glasgow to Edinburgh by bike - a tandem in fact."

"We have been in training and now with Tony's coaching we're ready to go!" added Carol. "And anyone who fancies cheering us on will be most welcome."

Just in case they forget what they learned in Battersea Park, Tony will be on hand as they ride the 50 miles between Glasgow and Edinburgh, visiting Children in Need Projects along the way.

"Children in Need is a great event and Plowman Craven Evans Cycles' are only too happy to help out" commented Tony. "Our sponsor Evans Cycles arranged for the tandem and I'll be on hand to make sure they remain upright!"

The ride starts at St Albert's Primary School, Glasgow and finishes at the Re-union canal boats, Edinburgh. You can see them set off on Thursday's BBC Breakfast programme, and they'll be back in the studio on Friday morning to report on how they got on.
